Neneh Sainey Secka began her legal career at the University of The Gambia, where she obtained her LLB degree and was admitted to the Gambian Bar in 2022. Following the completion of her pupilage and officially enrolled as a legal practitioner in 2023, she became a junior associate at Batchilly Chambers.

For a span of two years, Neneh worked as a legal fellow at the Gambia Center for Victims of Human Rights Violations. In this capacity, she oversaw the center’s focal persons in different regions of The Gambia and was responsible for recording instances of human rights abuses in the database. During her tenure at the center, Ms. Secka actively engaged in collaborative projects with various partner organizations, including the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation Commission, the National Human Rights Commission, as well as international entities like Amnesty International, Institute of Human Rights Development in Africa (IHRDA), Open Society Initiative for Africa, and Journalists for Justice. Apart from her involvement with these institutions, Neneh also served as a legal assistant at the Female Lawyers Association Gambia (FLAG), providing legal support to women and children facing legal challenges.
Currently, she volunteers for PF Initiative, offering assistance to women and girls dealing with issues related to human rights violations and mental health. Ms. Secka is a dedicated advocate for the differently abled, having volunteered at organizations such as the Gambia Deaf and Hard of Hearing and the Gambia Methodist Special School.
Neneh has participated in leadership retreats organized by the UNDP and has collaborated with international bodies such as the UNDP Regional office in Ethiopia, Pan African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PACCI), Conversation with Africa (CWA), Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and the AfCFTA Youth Advisory Council (ICOYACA). She is deeply committed to creating more employment opportunities for a sustainable Gambia and promoting inclusivity in society. As a pan-Africanist, she has been invited to speak at international conferences on topics related to the role of African women in socio-economic development, trade, and education.
In summary, Neneh is a respected role model with exceptional leadership qualities, dedicated to the advancement of her community, country, and continent through her continued volunteer work.
